ARHCU's history

In 1955, eight employees of the Sacramento Aerojet Plant discussed the need for a not-for-profit financial cooperative as an alternative to profit-driven banks. In keeping with the traditional credit union philosophy, they were volunteers who recognized the value of people helping people with their financial needs. Their purpose was to promote savings and create a source of credit for productive purposes. The result was a credit union that eventually became American River Federal Credit Union.

In 1960, Sutter Hospital employees also founded a credit union and over the years, membership expanded beyond Sutter to include all healthcare workers, licensed medical clinics, medical laboratories and convalescent hospitals in the Sacramento metropolitan area. The name changed to HealthPro Federal Credit Union to more accurately reflect its commitment to all healthcare professionals and employees.

In 1998, these two credit unions joined in a partnership to form American River HealthPro Credit Union. This partnership provided the foundation for steady and consistent growth and the opportunity to provide a wide array and state-of-the-art products, services, investment advice, branches, ATMs, Online-banking/Bill Pay and 24/7 live operator Telephone Branch service. ARHCU, the sixth largest credit union in Sacramento, has now reached $250+ million in assets and has more than 23,000 members.

Although anyone who lives or works in Sacramento, Placer, El Dorado and Yolo counties can join American River HealthPro, ARHCU's focuses on those individuals, and their family members, that it considers the real champions of society, healthcare professionals, the people who enhance and save lives. The credit union helps healthcare employees with their financial lives-not only by providing loans, mortgages, credit cards and investments, but also with financial planning.

American River HealthPro is also intimately involved with the community, supporting the works of the Mercy Foundation, Sutter Health, BloodSource and the Greater Sacramento Urban League.

"Our mission is to facilitate the lifetime financial success of our members by becoming their trusted advisor."
